A2MQG Meeting Minutes - July 2026

The meeting was held at LullCo with a somewhat lighter attendance (summer y'all!). We did have one guest in attendance.

  • MQG Community Outreach Quilt
    • Kathy shared the fabric choices for the quilt and explained the process
    • Fabric scheduled to be handed out at the August meeting
    • We discussed how the membership felt about offering the MQG quilt for sale at QuiltCon and the general consensus was that this would be okay - the charity it benefits goes towards art programs for youth.  The question was raised on how much quilts have sold for in the past and how many have actually sold so that will be researched.
  • Programs:
    • No Tear Paper Piecing class, August 30th at Ann Arbor Academy: class is full but members welcome to add to the waitlist
    • Rossie is looking into Brandon Wulff class as well as a possible Debbie Grifka class near the beginning of next year
  • Swaps and Challenges:
    • There was swapping of quilted bookmarks with some very clever tiny things.
    • Next month's swap will be a 12-in finished block of member's choice in blue and neutrals. Blocks will go into our charity quilt offerings.
    • September will be a Negative Space Challenge (Jess will email with more info)
  • Charity:
    • We had a couple donations for our charity outreach.
    • We also announced the addition of a new charity resource - Alyssa has offered to bring donations to Univ of Michigan's adult compassion carts.  These quilts will be used to support grieving families, often to cover up tubes and such to make the process less scary for family members.  The quilts can be any make and generally we are thinking in the lap quilt size.
  • Sutherland-Wilson Farm Quilt Show
    • Quilts were collected for the show which will be open to the public August 16, September 20, and October 18th.
    • Set up for the show will be Saturday, August 1st at 10:00am
  • Procedures
    • The board announced a procedure to add a membership category for Junior Members.  Please see the policies and procedures for exact wording
  • Retreats
    • There will be a local retreat (email going out shortly to members) to be held September 26-27 at Ann Arbor Academy.  Members will be able to sew all day and leave their projects overnight to work on the next day.  The retreat is planned for about 15 members although we will look at the space during the FPP class and see if we can extend that. We may ask for a $10 fee which will be donated to the Academy as a thank-you for using the space.
    • We will still have our overnight retreat at Creative Passions in January (Jan 29-31).
