Weekly Round Up for December 29, 2013!

I hope you are all preparing for an exciting New Year's Eve, and finishing up those 2013 projects so you can start something new in the new year!

Rossie has finished Ron the Half-Chevron Quilt top:

I really love this one!

Kathy has been screenprinting fabric to make into a bag! Can't wait to see this when it's finished, but here's the fabric - she added the blue over the already printed black.

This is a great example of how improvising can lead you to a richer outcome than you were initially contemplating...

Pam is showing off some gifts she made for others this season, she made a quilt, but I think I have to feature the University of Michigan themed stockings, right?:

Jenna's gone a bit crazy garment sewing with reindeer fabric. You really must see these!

Ann finished her Wild Geese quilt:

Debbie doesn't have time to sew. And I've been drawing... And that's it! Happy New Year's, everyone!

Weekly Round Up for December 21!

Lots of secret sewing must be going on! Because it's pretty quiet out there on the blogs.

Rossie has a new quilt called Prill, and shares her thoughts on quilt backs:

Rossie is also in the Lucie Summers Quilt Improv blog hop, and you can enter for a chance to win Lucie's book and see Rossie's improv chevrons here.

Lynn put this intriguing picture on her blog, without much explanation:

Brenda is sharing a recipe for baked apple cinnamon oatmeal on her blog. Sounds delicious!

Kathy has been making stockings:

Debbie has a book review of Amish Quilts: The Adventure Continues on her blog. I love Amish quilts myself, so I'm going to be on the look out for this book!

And I have been working on my tree skirt, using Debbie's pattern:

I'm a little further along now than yesterday, but Rossie has already finished hers! Here's a picture from Instagram of hers in action:

I am at least hoping to have mine done before the end of the year... But, well, we'll see.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Happy Solstice, everyone!

Meeting Minutes from Dec 18, 2013.

It was delightful to party with everyone at our meeting on Wednesday!  Thanks for all the treats, eats, and drinks!

Our calendar on the side here will soon be updated for 2014...

Next Sew-In: January 12 12 - 4pm at Pink Castle Fabrics
Next Meeting: Wednesday, January 28th at 6:30pm

Swap: Unfortunately I have to double check with Dorie about the swap for January.  I'll update this ASAP.

Old Business:

January Retreat:
  • Do to a scheduling snafu by the Hankerd Inn, the retreat will now be at the Howell Conference and Nature Center
  • Same weekend, Friday - Sunday: January 31 - Feb 2
  • Our guild PayPal account will send an invoice for the full payment of $150, to be paid by all attending ASAP.
  • The Howell location is a bit more campy- than the Inn.  There will be bunk beds, and we will need to provide our own bedding / sleeping bags as well as most sewing supplies (no cutting boards or irons on site).  Ginia will be emailing those who book their space with more details.
Other Retreats:
  • There was a discussion about having a retreat at the Hankerd Inn the weekend of April 11 - 13, but that was not going to work with many people's schedules.   We will probably have an all-day sew-in in the Spring instead.
  • The summer retreat is still a go at the Hankerd Inn for the weekend of June 26 - 29th with a discounted rate of $95 for Friday - Sunday.
Modern Quilt Exhibit with Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild: committee needs to set up a meeting.  Pam has not heard from Sonia.

Riley Blake Contest: the end date is in February.
  •  Post pictures in this thread at the MQG site
  •  Those who wish to participate in a Guild's Choice contest can bring their quilted item to the February meeting.  Those participating should being a fat quarter, winner takes all.
Elections: for officer positions will take place in the January meeting.  So far the current board is running unopposed.

New Business:

Charity Chairs: are Stephanie K. and Pam L.!  We will work on having charity projects throughout the year.
  • Quilty Box is gathering Orphan Blocks to make children's charity quilts.  More details here!  Brenda said you can bring your blocks to Pink Castle Fabrics until the last week of January.

Our Sew-In Policy:
  • We need at least 4 people to book a space in order to hold a Sew-In.
  • Jenna will give us a rough headcount in the Sew-In reminder post/email.
  • There are always free Sunday Sew-Ins at The Quilting Season.

Member Spotlight - Vicky Gaines
  • Next month we will learn about Maureen!

Skill School  - QAYG for small projects

Weekly Round Up for December 8th, 2013!

Pam spend the day after Thanksgiving in the hospital! Eeep! Feel better, Pam! Here is a fantastic star block she made earlier that I somehow missed.

I've been working on lots of things, but I blogged about this one - a neutral tumbler quilt in progress. It was a bit windy when I took the picture...

Keep up the sewing, and we'll see you next week everyone!

Weekly Round up for the last week in November.

It's pretty quiet out there in blogging land, I imagine because we're all working on holiday gifts, spend days cooking, or traveling to see family, right?

Rossie finished her quartered log cabin quilt top.

Brenda is showing off her Sweet Diamonds quilt.

Debbie made this adorable potholder as a sample for the class she'll be teaching next week at Camp Stitchalot:

Kathy has been working on two amazing art quilts - this neat two color one and one with amazing beaded palm fronds.

Emily has a book review of "Simple Sewing" by Katie Lewis on her blog. She cut into her kawaii fairy tale fabrics to make these sweet beanbags:

And finally, Lynn has been making slow sewing progress, as there's some work going on at her house.

Brenda's posted her thick mint chocolate chip cookie recipe. I'll be making some of these.

Pam is showing off this amazing yo-yo quilt that her grandmother made. It was probably made in the late forties or early fifties:

And that's all from me this week! Let's get back to sewing!
