A2MQG Meeting Minutes January 2024

Happy New Year, friends!

The meeting was held at Maker Works with 14 members and 1 guest in person, and 3 members via Zoom.

Retreat: The retreat was held the weekend before the meeting and a good time was had by all! Big thanks to Creative Passions for another wonderful retreat!

Dues: Reminder that annual dues are due now.  Please go to the link at the right and fill out the form and submit payment.  We will be cutting off access to emails and social media in January to those who have not renewed.

Round Robin participants shared their progress.

Swaps/Challenges:  This month's challenge was the HESITANT SHARERS CHALLENGE - a challenge for anyone who has not shared a quilt or project in the last 6 months to get up and share their work. It was so nice to see the great pieces from our members!

Charity

- Our MQG Community Challenge Quilt was shipped to (and received by) QuiltCon!

- We had some great charity finishes this month! Continue to get those charity quilts to Carol and peruse our collection of kits to take home and put together, or make your own!

Programs:

  • We will have a sew-in on 3/30 at Maker Works! Bring your projects and do some social sewing together!
  • April 6th will be our Voltron Quilt Zoom class with Irene Roderick! The class is currently full but you can get on the waitlist in case some folks drop out.

Video Segment (New!): We watched a video from the MQG site by Holly Clarke on Modern Traditionalism! We learned some cool techniques on how you can make a traditional block modern. Holly explained the distinction between the traditional vs. modern aesthetics and while we didn't watch the entire presentation (you can watch the full one here - login with your MQG login), we were inspired to follow it up with a challenge (see below).

Show and Share:  The Board would like to ask members to limit (if possible) the number of show and shares to no more than 2 quilts. We want to see your work! Don't forget to bring those finishes (and WIPs!) to show off to your quilty pals!

Sound and other acoustic issues update:  A heavy blanket was constructed and hung over the door, and also some quilts have been hung on racks near the door to help with sound dampening. We have also moved the chairs forward to help. It has been much better!

Next meeting: Wednesday, February 28th at Maker Works! See you there!

Next month's challenge: Modern Traditionalism Block! Design a quilt (or even just a block) by taking an aesthetic from a traditional design concept and combine with a modern aesthetic as shown in the Holly Clarke video. If you would like a refresher, check the email from us from February 2nd, 2024!
