 A2MQG Meeting Minutes, March 2021

The Guild is now meeting via Zoom. If you are not receiving Zoom meeting invites as a member, or if you would like to become a member, please contact the Board. Note that guests may attend one free meeting, plus additional meetings for a fee. Contact us for more information.

  • Secretary: Kathy reminded everyone that they can see the minutes on the website and they can subscribe to the feed if they want to get them automatically emailed. Contact her if you need assistance.
  • Treasurer: All is well. Looks like everyone has paid for the upcoming class.
  • Membership:
    • We currently have 58 members.
    • Reminder that MQG (The Modern Quilt Guild) membership is part of your A2MQG membership.  Visit https://www.themodernquiltguild.com/ and login for member specific content.  If you are having trouble logging in, contact the Amy S. or any Board member.
  • Programs:
    • Daisy Achenhoug's class https://warmfolk.com - "Basic Curves: Traditional and Curvy", April 17, 9am-2pm is all set - we have 20 members signed up.  The Zoom link will be going out to attendees shortly. All attendees should have received their supply list - if you haven't please check with Dorie.
  • Skill Share:
    • Amy S. gave a presentation on screen-printing which included some of the techniques and tools she uses as well as photos of some of her own projects.
  • Retreats and Sew-Ins:
    • Next retreat will be at Creative Passions, Chesaning, January 28-30, 2022
    • There appears to be some interest for a virtual (zoom) weekend retreat, possibly in the fall.
    • There continues to be interest/involvement in Tuesday evening sew-ins via zoom.  Anyone is welcome, bring a project or just come chat for awhile.  Typically starts between 7-7:30 and continues until around 9:00.
  • Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) Statement: a committee has been formed (Brenda RG, Ida, Amy H., Henya, Deb S.).  The committee and Board are continuing to work on the details. More to follow.
  • Charity Quilts:
    • Brenda shared a photo of our QuiltCon Community Challenge quilt from the QuiltCon Together Catalog of Quilts (ours is the top right one):

    • Reminder that the second Tuesday of each month the Zoom Sew-In will be dedicated to working on charity blocks (although you don't need to work on those to attend). Next one will be April 13.
    • Current charity quilts that have been completed or are being worked on were shared.  Jackie should be able to share status on the log cabin block efforts from this last quarter at our next meeting.
    • Jackie has 4 tops that still need someone to quilt/finish them.
    • This quarter's charity block will be the Wonky Star block by Wombat Quilts. It is based on/inspired by the gorgeous photo of the Chicago River at night you see below by MaidaSkys. The block is Wonky Stars and the color palette will be any colors in the Chicago river photo. Any size stars are fine, this will likely end up a patchwork improv when all the stars are gathered together. Please make a many blocks as you like! Mail to Jackie or drop off at Jackie or Brenda's.

  • Swaps and Challenges:
    • The next SWAP will be a pincushion swap.  Sign-ups have gone out right after the meeting and will close on April 7. Maggie will notify members and assign swap partners. Pincushions are to be mailed to your partner no later than May 10 and swapees will share at the May meeting.
  • Group Discussion: "Do you have a favorite quilt block?"
  • Library sharing: "Take Flight: Fun with Textile Collage," by Emily Taylor.
  • Show and Share
Next meeting: Wednesday, April 28.
