A2MQG Meeting Minutes, February 2022

The February meeting was held via Zoom with 15 members and one guest in attendance.

Secretary/Webmaster: Note that we have changed the Zoom link for meetings. The link was sent to members via email.

Treasurer: Amy has sent in our tax reporting and is working with MQG on paying for our membership.

Programs: We still don't have something totally nailed down but are hoping to have around 3-4 lectures this year during meetings and classes.  The Board will be meeting this next month so hopefully we will have something to report at the next meeting.

Library: Members shared some books they are reading or purchased.  We also reminded everyone that the list of borrowable books are on the website and we will make arrangements to make a hand off as needed.

Swaps/Challenges: Reminder that this quarter our challenge is to complete a UFO.  There will be a show and share and drawing at the March meeting.

Retreats: The January retreat at Creative Passions was a great success.  Carol reported that there was a lot of room to spread out and attendees had a lot of fun and got a lot of projects completed.

Charity:

  • Members met at the N.E.W. center to work on charity quilts this last Sunday. One top was completed and another almost done.  Jackie hopes to continue having these face-to-face (mask-to-mask) sew-ins quarterly to put together or create blocks vs. having the quarterly block projects.  Kathy noted to just let her know dates and she will reserve the space.

  • Brenda has quite a few finished quilts for Mott's Children's Center and The Veteran's Hospital which were on hold due to the pandemic.  She will be checking with them this week to see if things have opened back up enough to donate.
  • Food Gatherers has announced the date of their Grillin event as June 12.  We usually donate a quilt to auction.  The board will need to decide if we are going to resurrect the Polaroid quilt we'd worked on or use the MQG Community Outreach Quilt.

QuiltCon:  Several members attended QuiltCon in Phoenix this last week.  Our Community Outreach Quilt was on display.  Hopefully members will share if they had quilts in the show and we can showcase them on our social media pages.

Upcoming Events of Interest:  We shared several quilt shows that are coming up over the next few months that members might be interested in.  They include the Faculty Women's Club on March 6-15, The Bay Heritage Society quilt show in Bay City in May, and the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild's bi-annual quilt show in July.  The events have been posted on our Facebook page but we also will start putting them on our Google Calendar (also accessible via FB).  If members know of shows or quilt-related events, they should email the Board and we will post them.

Sew-Ins:  The guild still casually (drop-ins) meets on Tuesday evenings for a Zoom sew-in from 7-9pm.

Show and Share - here are some of the quilt photos sent in for show and share.  Members also showed via Zoom but those aren't captured here:

A2MQG Meeting Minutes, January 2022

The January meeting was held via Zoom.  There were 22 members in attendance.

Membership:  Reminder that dues are past due at this point for 2022.  Kathy will be cutting off access to our FaceBook page and update our email lists effective tomorrow (January 24) for anyone who has not paid by that point.

Annual Meeting >

Bylaws Review:  A quick review of the bylaws was held as well as a quick tour of our website.

Treasurer's Report: Cheryl reported that we had almost $4500 income with a little over $5000 in expenses (contact the Board for an exact report).  This was expected as we had higher expenses with Zoom and spent a little more on charity quilts (materials like batting and some longarm quilting).

Retreat:  We are still having the annual retreat January 28th and since there are openings, if you find you are able to attend, let Tara know.  We currently have 8 people going with the ability to have 2 people to a room. We will have the same weekend next year so mark your calendars!

Swaps & Challenges:  Tara has agreed to be the Swap Chair in addition to her Retreat duties.  Let her know if you have any ideas.   The first challenge of 2022 will be a UFO swap.  This will be due at the March meeting and participants are eligible to have their name put in a drawing.  The idea is to find your oldest UFO and totally complete it (yes this means quilted and bound).

Library: reminder that books available are on the website and Kim will coordinate meeting you in the Ann Arbor area if you would like to borrow anything.

Programs: Cheryl is reaching out to possible teachers, hopefully something for Q1.

Charity: Jackie mentioned with our Covid restrictions charity participation has been way down. She plans on continuing coming up with new block ideas every three months for 2022. It was decided to have an in-person day at N.E.W. to assemble charity quilts. Deb Spring will be coordinating the event.  Kathy will reserve February 20th at the center and notify members.

MQG: Discussion was held on who is going to QuiltCon in February.  Reminder that our Community Outreach Quilt is there and we asked that attendees find it and take photos for our social media.  We also discussed the benefits of MQG membership including access to Omaha's BOM which is utilizing blocks accessible to members.

Show & Share:  Members shared photos of their works in progress and more completions from 2021.

Next Meeting: February 23, Zoom  (note that we will have a new Zoom login for this meeting for the new year)

A2MQG Meeting Minutes, December 2021

Our December meeting was held via Zoom with 20 members in attendance.

December is typically our celebration meeting so in lieu of being able to have an in-person party, we had a recap of our accomplishments this year, a slide show of quilts members created this year, and played a quilt-y version of Codename which was put together by Lana.

Accomplishments:
  • Diversity and Inclusion statement created and posted on website
  • Around 10 new members
  • Virtual Sew-ins held most Tuesday evenings with one in-person to assemble the MQG Community Challenge quilt for QuiltCon
  • Many charity quilts (we also had a slide show of the quilts Jackie has received this year for our various charities)
  • Two outside speakers, Laura Hartrich and Cheryl Arkinson
  • One virtual class, Daisy Aschehoug
Swaps and Challenges:
It was noted that we still need a Swap chair so let the Board know if you are interested.

Next Meeting via Zoom:  January 23, 2022
