Diversity Inclusion Statement & Supporting Values

The Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild and its members acknowledge, honor and actively uphold the fundamental value and dignity of all individuals.  We strive to create and maintain an inclusive organization built on encouragement and mutual respect, where all feel safe and welcome, and where diverse traditions, heritage, and experiences are respected and understood as part of what helps make us who we are.  In politics and social justice, we use our craft as one of our many forms of education, expression and protest.

Reports of any behavior contradictory to our supporting values will be investigated by the Board and if necessary appropriate actions will be taken. These actions may be anything from interventions and learning opportunities, up to permanent expulsion from the Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild if deemed necessary.

VALUES

Diversity:  The Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild supports and actively ensures the representation of different and unique identities, characteristics, experiences, and perspectives.  While we are all understood to be in various stages of learning, supporting, and advocating for diversity, we will be expected to strive to that ideal.  We expect this of our board, members, guests, speakers and teachers.

Inclusion:  The Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size or appearance, nationality, language, immigration status, educational status, disability, marital status/partnership, socio-economic status, political beliefs, military status.  Differences in work and behavioral styles, quilting style or level of experience are welcome and enrich our guild.

Safety:  The Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild will not tolerate any forms or perceived forms of violence, intimidation, fraud, sexual harassment, gender, racial or age discrimination, abuse, or offensive behavior.
