- Brenda Rowley-Gray shared an update on the October class that had been planned to be with Latifah.
- Amy S. suggested the idea of using a Creativebug class remotely together, if enough A2MQG members with memberships on that site are interested. Some local library systems offer free memberships. Tara Faughn is an example of a quilting instructor with material on Creativebug.
- with the closing of Pink Castle, Jackie Mills will be taking over custodianship of the blue bin for the time being
- charity quilting update from Jackie Mills:
- we will be doing the same block two months at a time. July and August is Cluck Cluck Sew's "Scrappy Summer": https://
cluckclucksew.com/2013/06/ finished-scrappy-summer-and- pattern.html. No color requirements; just use what you have. - Are any orgs actively accepting donations right now?
- we're not sure
- What can members do with blocks & quilts?
- Jackie will be hanging out in a parking lot at 5245 Jackson Rd. from 9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. waiting for her daughter on Saturday, June 27, the location of which might be more convenient for some, so you could meet her there for contactless drop off if you want.
- She will also take contactless drop offs at her house to a bin by her garage. (See Facebook post for address, or get in touch with Jackie for information.)
- people can also postal mail, or just waiting is also fine
- BLM
- A2MQG supports BLM
- MQG has made a statement, too
- some members proposed a discussion topic on how our guild can be more active in antiracism, so let's open that up now
- ideas
- increase invitations to BIPOC teachers for our classes
- consider an idea Maggie heard suggested by Sherri Lynn Wood to focus charity efforts on "making with" not "making for" groups
- publicize our events in different venues from what we do currently
- promote Black-owned craft businesses
- consider a joint event or swap for fun with a Black quilting organization
- examine our procedures for welcoming new members in general to be as inclusive as possible
- work on our public facebook page a bit to increase visibility and presence
- follow up with people one-on-one after early meetings
- when we have first-timers, introduce all of ourselves? (Are we too big for this idea?)
- make sure we help Sherri (VP of membership) with knowing who new people are and reaching out to them
- name tags? (We actually have these now; they were purchased just before the pandemic and haven't been used yet.)
- guild "big sister" idea?
- do an icebreaker every month
- The MQG released the guidelines for the 2021 QuiltCon Together community outreach quilts. Bring your ideas for what we will do for this to the July meeting!
- Our July meeting will be on Zoom. See Facebook for the meeting info, or email the guild (a2modernquiltguild@gmail.com) if you're not yet a member.
