About Us

We are a branch of the national Modern Quilt Guild, featuring quilters from the greater Ann Arbor area.  The Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild (A2MQG) started in 2011 with a few people meeting in the local library. We have grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years (current membership is over 50).

As modern quilters we enjoy creating quilts with a modern look-and-feel. What is a modern quilt? Definitions vary but typically more use of negative space in our quilts as well as improvisational techniques and definitely use of modern fabrics and patterns.  Then again, you might be surprised at the use of vintage patterns or fabrics.  Basically all is fair game and we have all levels of quilters from beginner to expert, hand piecers to all machine, hand quilters to longarmers.

Typical meetings include planning retreats, shows, events; most months we take part in a swap or challenge (see the SWAPs link on the homepage); we have a member spotlight where one member brings several quilts to show off; we also have a skill school where we spend 10 minutes or so learning a new technique or tool; many members take part in Round Robin quilts where each team member works on everyone else's quilt; we encourage members to join in making quilts for various charities and we have group show-and-share for you to showcase your most recent project(s); and we have a Guild library where you can borrow books or magazines to assist in your project.

Guild meetings and events are always a place to socialize with other quilters, find a place to ask questions or get help on your quilting or share your expertise with others.

Please join us! New members are always welcome.

Meetings…
We meet on the last Wednesday of the month.  Note that due to Covid we have most of our meetings via Zoom. Please contact us for information on where we will be meeting.
Hopefully we will soon be back to meetings at the NEW Center, 1100 N. Main St. Ann Arbor. (Please see our meeting dates posting in the right navigation panel as dates may shift due to holidays.).

Join us at 6 for light refreshments and to chat with fellow guild members! Every meeting includes show-and-tell, so bring a modern quilt creation if you have one!
