A2MQG Meeting Minutes, August 2021

Our August meeting was our first in-person meeting since end of 2019 - it was great seeing people "live" at Olson Park in Ann Arbor.  Our September meeting will be held there as well with October likely going back to Zoom.  November meeting will definitely be Zoom as we have a guest presenter, Cheryl Arkison who will present "Improv is my love language".

Sew-Ins:  Remember we have reserved Tuesday evenings from approximately 7-9pm for our virtual sew-ins.  Check your email or FB for the Zoom link.

Charity:

  • Work continues on the MQG Community Outreach quilt.  Thanks to Amy S. for coordinating and providing her block design.  Blocks will be put together at N.E.W. on September 18th.
  • Improv charity blocks are as follows.  Contact Jackie or ask on the FB page if you have any questions.

Diversity Inclusion Statement: The guild approved the statement with the suggestion that we missed "sexual orientation" in our list of areas we will not allow to be discriminated against.  Brenda will add this and the full statement will be posted on our guild website.

Elections: Reminder that October is Board elections to cover the period from Jan-Dec 2022.  It was reported that Dorie is stepping down as VP of Programs so we are looking for volunteers. Any guild member may run for any office.  Interested members for any position should contact the board.

Membership:

  • Dues for next year are due at the October meeting.
  • The Board reported that we have instituted a new "Student fee" policy.  Anyone who is an active student can take advantage of $10 a year membership as long as they are in school.  Forms are still being developed but anyone wishing to apply can contact the Board.
  • The Board also decided to reinstate (or clarify) that mid-year memberships are $20 (July-Dec).

Class Fee Waiver:  The Board has also decided that one spot in every A2MQG offered class will be reserved to have the class fee waived.  There will be no requirement to justify why the person is asking for the fee waiver but the person does need to be a guild member.  If more than one person applies for the waiver, a drawing will be held. Again, as above, forms are being developed but members can contact the board for more information.

Swaps and Challenges: Members shared their color challenge projects and a random winner was chosen from the entries (Kathy won the FQ bundle).

Next meeting: Wednesday, September 29th at Olson Park picnic shelter in Ann Arbor.
